Medicaid

Dual eligibility — having both Medicare and Medicaid.

If you qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, you're "dually eligible." Medicaid can pay Medicare premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.

Key points

  • Medicare is primary, Medicaid pays after.
  • Medicaid may cover services Medicare doesn't (long-term care, some dental).
  • Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) are Advantage plans designed for dual-eligible people.
